Keep your pet safe in the summer.

These tips are just a reminder and common sense as well. When the weather heats up, pets heat up too. Here are some tips to help keep your pet safe this summer.

DON'T leave your pet in a locked car during the summer. No matter how long or short of time you expect to be away from the car. Just don't even do it. During warm weather, the inside of your car can reach 120° in a matter of minutes. Think about it. Dogs and cats can't perspire and can only dispel heat by panting and through the pads of their feet. Pets who are left in hot cars even briefly can suffer from heat exhaustion, heat stroke, brain damage, and can even die.
If you are traveling with your pet, be sure to take stops along the way for water.

Have you ever seen a dog riding in the back of a pick-up truck?
It is very dangerous, and in some states illegal, to drive with a dog in the back of a pick-up truck. Your dog can be hit by flying debris cause serious injury. Think about what would happen if your dog is unintentionally thrown into traffic.

Do you use chemicals on your lawn?

Is your pet taking needed items such as heartworm prevention and flea and tick prevention? Heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes, can be fatal in both dogs and cats.
