Joann McKinster, of Kettering, brought her European Burmese to the event. She travels to about 30 shows per year and said it was nice to have one so close to home for a change.

"You can sleep in your own bed and you do not have to worry about the hotel room bill," she said.

There were more than 40 breeds represented at the event.

Proceeds from the show will be used in part to support the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and other organizations. The entry fees, gate vending and raffle tickets usually cover expenses so more can be donated to the charities. Pam Reisen, the show's secretary, said the event is unique.

"This is a chance to see cats with national titles," she said. "You get a chance to see breeds you could never see before." For Reisen and many of the breeders, "it is our hobby and our passion."
